Description

This painted aluminum sculpture features the number "2000" cast in block letters and stacked on top of each other to form a square. The top proper left "0" is tilted. The face and back of each number is painted red and the side and interior is painted blue. It was cast at Milgo, a Brooklyn foundry. The foundry stamp on the sculpture indicates this was number two from a series of six.

Indiana, St. Joseph, New Castle. Robert Indiana (born Robert Clark 1928) in New Castle, IN. The artist moved to New York City in 1954 and was instrumental in creating the Pop Art movement along with Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschneberg, Andy Warhol, Ellsworth Kelley and several others. Arguably, the most famous Indiana artist of the past 50 years, his paintings, sculptures and prints are in public and private collections worldwide. Indiana's work often consists of bold, simple, iconic images, especially numbers and short words like EAT, HUG, and, his best known example, LOVE. This piece was purchased directly from the artist, along with the INDIANA sculpture, created specifically for the Indiana State Museum.
